It is no secret that my husband is smart. While, he is an amazing husband, father, doctor, and friend. I have to say that this particular idea that he came up with is pure genius! A few weeks ago on Saturday, we were doing a little grocery shopping when we walked down everyone's favorite isle, the cereal isle. Kaia started asking for Fruity Pebbles and anything else with sugar in it. I busted out my ads and told her to get a box because it was on sale. We let the boy's pick from the ones that were on sale too. (They chose Cap'n Crunch) While we were heading to the check out Matt said, "Hey why don't we come and let the kiddos pick out some cereal every Saturday and then we can have it for dinner only on Sundays. It can be a new tradition. Everyone in the house loves cereal and that way we don't have to fight with them to eat dinner." I feel in love with him even more! I LOVED this idea! Our boys are such picky eaters and most nights I make 3 dinners. (so NOT fun) It is frustrating for me, for them, and for Matt. Kaia is a pretty good eater but some nights even she won't eat because she wants what the boys are having. It has been a struggle for us. Matt knows how much it bothers me to not be able to just make one dinner. We have tried insisting that the boys eat what I make but then they wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning hungry and they won't go back to sleep. *sigh* There are just some battles that you can't fight (or win) with autism. Anyway, we have been doing this for a few weeks now and I love it. Everyone sits down, eats, and is happy. Happiness is a great way to start the week. Yay! for 'S'ereal Sundays!
